Now is the time to revisit your bucket list and start planning your next awesome dive encounter. Here are some of our favorite big animal encounters:
1. Great White Sharks at Guadalupe Island
Guadalupe Island is one of the best places in the world to shark cage dive with great whites each summer. Divers and non-divers can come face-to-face with these apex predators in a thrilling bucket-list experience.
2. Humpback Whales in Moorea
The French Polynesian island of Moorea provides a refuge for hundreds of humpback whales every Autumn. Swimming and snorkeling with these gentle giants is incredibly intimate and makes for a life-changing trip.
3. Manta Rays at Socorro
The Mexican outcrop of Socorro Island attracts ocean giants year-round and is home to a resident population of giant pacific manta rays. Divers watch in awe as these huge rays glide overhead, playing in scuba exhaust bubbles. Join our February 2022 photo workshop in Socorro.
4. Hammerhead Sharks in the Galapagos
The Galapagos Islands are home to a host of unique creatures, and none more so than the huge schools of hammerhead sharks found around Wolf and Darwin Islands. The largest schools normally appear between December and May, when hundreds of sharks fin lazily into the strong currents in a spectacle rarely seen anywhere else.
5. Whale Sharks of La Paz
Hundreds of whale sharks follow the plankton blooms into the Bay of La Paz every Autumn in one of Mexico's most fascinating natural events. These huge filter feeders are found quite close to shore, but robust regulations protect them from the worst impact of tourists keen to swim with them.
