JOSE CASTELLANO
Marine Biologist/Zoologist and Award-Winning Underwater Photographer
Jose is a biologist, zoologist, and underwater photographer from Spain and has been teaching scuba diving as an instructor and for the past 13 years. In addition, he has worked in the diving industry as a dive guide and cruise director for several different diving liveaboards in the Maldives, Thailand, and Indonesia. Earning a degree in Zoology from the University of Granada, Spain, Jose began his diving passion after taking courses in Marine Biology and Oceanography at the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands.
It was Jose’s passion for marine life and scuba diving that resulted in his starting a project called Biology for Divers in 2017, which brings marine biology into the diving community. Under Biology for Divers, Jose brings lectures on marine biodiversity to divers on liveaboard trips.
Currently, Jose is a part-time Cruise Director and Marine Biologist on the liveaboard Arenui in Indonesia where he gives regular marine biology lectures to the diving guests.
Jose is an accomplished underwater photographer having earned awards and mentions in the Ocean Art photo competition, Beneath the Sea festival, and GDP/Wetpixel Master competition.
